20 Uses For Apple Cider Vinegar

A Facebook friend shared this several days ago. It reminded me that Gabriel is constantly extolling the virtues of Apple Cider Vinegar – even going so far as to say that I should start taking it.

Yuck! Ew! phtooey! I know what that stuff tastes like. I don’t care how many uses there are for apple cider vinegar; it’s nasty. But there’s a reason why natural cattle farmers purchase it by the barrel – it’s good stuff!

I shared the above image on my Facebook page and got some great feedback on how to take it and additional uses:

  • Mix it with lemonade. I think this would be a great way to take it! I’m guessing you’d want to cut back on the lemon juice. Or maybe replace it with ACV?
  • Mix 50/50 with water to spray on dogs. The ACV is said to reduce dander and eliminate the “wet dog” smell. I’ll remember this one if/when we get a dog!
  • Feed it to chickens. It helps keep worms at bay.

The more Gabriel and I learn about natural animal keeping, the more in awe we are of our Creator. It’s amazing. We’ve recently begun buying drums of apple cider vinegar to feed our cattle. It helps balance their Ph and promotes proper intestinal function, among other things.

When talking about apple cider vinegar, it’s important to note that we’re referring to raw, unfiltered vinegar, usually with the mother in it. The cheap vinegar you get at the store is usually pasteurized and dead – sometimes not even the real thing.

Earlier this week, I started to get a sore throat. Oh boy, here we go with the Fall and Winter colds, right?

I guess that was the motivation I needed to start taking the stuff, and I think I finally found a way to make it palatable, too. Maybe not altogether pleasant, but at least drinkable. Since elderberry syrup is championed as a superfood in its own right, I decided to mix the two for a double whammy. Here’s my mix:

This isn’t a magic formula; it’s just the syrup-to-vinegar ratio that worked for me. It still has a vinegary aftertaste, but it’s not bad at all!

After taking that dosage four times throughout the day, my sore throat was gone. Coincidence? Maybe. But you can bet I’m on a maintenance dosage now!

  1. I am wanting to start using ACV for our cattle and was wondering where you buy your drums of ACV and how much is it? Thanks
