I just had the most hilarious conversation with my kids – Weekend Wrap-up

Do you ever try to sleep in?

I did that this week. My husband was out of town, so naturally, I reverted back to my night-owlishness, and tried to sleep in as a result.

If you have kids, you know how this ends. With me underneath a pile of my kids by 7:00 A.M. Being jumped upon is not the most pleasant way to wake up.

That’s parenting for ya. I guess if I’m going to stay up late, I’m gonna have to keep the kids up with me. 😛

Favorite Tip This Week

Commit to cleaning one thing every day. Binge cleaning isn’t consistent, and can cause burnout. But it you just work at cleaning one thing every day, be it a window, a floor, a toilet, etc. your house will get, and stay, incrementally cleaner.

I love this idea!

What I’m reading to the kids

Turn Homeward Hannalee

I found this book captivating when I was a kid. Partly because it was one of the first books I read that introduced me to the Civil War’s southern point of view.

It’s a bit above the kids’ heads, but they’re listening. I like to set aside a little bit of our reading time everyday to read a chapter book that will stretch the kids, and exercise their brains. Also, mommy gets tired of Dr. Suess.

Personal Goal I’m Working On

Earlier this year, I went through some injuries that kept me from being able to stay in shape the way I want to. But now, I’m working on getting some of my muscles back.

I’m not sure how long it will take, but I know it won’t be easy as I try to work hard enough to get back in shape, but take it easy enough not to aggravate old injuries.

This week my goal is simply to resistance train 3x, and run 4 miles – total.

I hope to increase my front squat to 3 sets of 10 reps at 45 pounds by the end of the week, but we’ll see how it goes with the ol’ knee. (btw, my knee injury was NOT lifting or squatting related. Just so you know)

Something that should help with that? Young Living’s new(ish) pain relief cream. I just got it in the mail today. 🙂 🙂

Favorite Meals And Recipes

I’m still in love with last week’s paleo pumpkin waffles, and even more in love with the buttered pecan syrup that comes with them. Yum! But the kids are more in love with these pumpkin spice no-bake energy bites. We made our first batch of no-bake energy bites when we were making snacks for our trip to Argentina, and we’ve been in love ever since!

The other thing I’m really in love with this week is navy beans. Sounds a little weird maybe, but cooked with a little salt, and some bay leaf, they’re delicious!

Most Hilarious conversation I’ve ever had with the kids

Hadassah: Mom, what’s your name?
Garrett: It’s “Aunt Weese”
Me: No Garrett, that’s just what your cousins call me.
Garrett: Why do they call you that if it’s not your name?
Me: Why do you call me mom if it’s not my name?
*pause*
Garrett: So what’s your name?

You can’t make this stuff up.
