Hemp Protein Brownie Bites

I seem to have a mild obsession with trying different types of protein. Rice protein? How interesting! Pea protein? let me try that! Hemp protein sounds awesome!

And it is awesome, but it doesn’t mix into drinks and smoothies like pea or whey protein does.

Besides, I also have more than a mild obsession with brownies and chocolate and all things sweet.

Thus, the hemp protein brownie bites.

And now you know a few things about me that you could have gone your whole life without know that you didn’t need to know.

Anyway, I first tried to make these with a stevia baking blend, and they were awful. Although, I think using too much cocoa powder was partly to blame. they were bitter as all get out, and I ended up adding sugar(!) just to make them palatable.

Lesson learned: that stevia stuff was in the clearance bin for good reason.

The second batch, I cut back on cocoa, and used (our store’s knock off version of) Truvia as the sweetener, with a little vanilla, and they are A-okay. Kind of indulgent, but alllll protein.

Important note: This recipe is for unflavored, unsweetened protein. If your protein is flavored, omit the sweetener and cocoa.

  1. I just made these! They’re delish, but I made a few adjustments…

The hemp protein I have has a funky texture, so the end result when I followed the recipe was kind of gross. So in addition to the recipe (in which I used honey instead of stevia and MCT oil instead of melted coconut oil) I added about a quarter cup almond flour, some hemp seeds I had on hand, walnuts and black walnuts, and about a cup of fresh ground peanut butter… The peanut butter made the texture much more creamy and palatable. So now they’re peanut butter-choco-hemp no bake brownies. Oh yeah! I also added a spritz of apple cider vinegar, as it helps break down the phytic acid in nuts and grains. I will be chilling them overnight and then eating them for breakfast-dessert tomorrow! The black walnuts and cider vinegar add some unique flavors to it in addition to the hemp!

    Sweet recipe! THANK YOU! 🙂

  2. These are great! I made two batches. One batch had coconut oil and agave nectar for the sweetener. Another batch had maple syrup as the sweetener and I added some cinnamon and also, instead of coconut oil, I used sunflower seed butter. Both batches were amazing! Thanks for this great recipe.
