This is a fun little project that is just way too easy not to try!
Just a few months ago I'd have scoffed at the idea of exfoliating body scrubs, but since a friend gifted me with a small jar of sugar scrub after Garrett was born, I've become a believer.
Why I'd never tried it, I don't know, but suddenly my dry, crack-prone feet became soft again.
The sugar (or salt) in the scrub exfoliates the dead skin cells away, while the oil moistureizes the skin leaving it oh so very soft.
Exfoliating Sugar (or salt) Scrub
1 cup sugar, sea salt, or epsom salt
1/2 up oil.
A few drops of essential oil (peppermint and lavender are my favorites)
Olive and sweet almond oils are recomended for body scrubs.
I used about half melted coconut oil and half olive oil in mine.
Mix the oils and sugar together in a bowl. Then add your essential oil until it reaches your desired potency (roughly 8-10 drops per cup).
I bottled some of mine plain, and then I colored half of the rest pink, to make my own version of candy cane scrub
This is a simple, inexpensive version. You can easily use other skin nourishing additives such as vitamin E oil, cocoa butter, aloe vera gel, etc. Just be sure to encrease the ammount of sugar at double the rate of increased oil.
These make awesomely inexpensive gifts – who doesn't love receiving skin-care products? – with the added bonu that it's homemade and chemical free!
